Sports Physical Therapy in Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City is an athlete's town — skiing, trail running, climbing, CrossFit, rec leagues. And athletes get hurt. When you do, you need physical therapy that understands what "recovered" actually means to you. Not just pain-free. Back to full speed, cleared for your sport and confident to return.

That's what we do at Craft Physical Therapy. Every session is a full hour, one-on-one with your physical therapist — in clinics embedded inside real training gyms (RxFit in Holladay and Ute CrossFit in South Salt Lake). Your rehab happens where athletes actually train, not in a curtained-off corner of a medical office.

Sports Injuries We Treat

Sprains and strains — ankles, knees, hamstrings, groins

Tendonitis and tendinopathy — Achilles, patellar, rotator cuff, tennis/golfer's elbow

Post-surgical rehab — ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, labral repairs, shoulder stabilization

Overuse injuries — IT band syndrome, shin splints, stress reactions

Back and neck pain — from lifting, contact sports, and high training loads

Return-to-sport after any injury — including second opinions when progress has stalled elsewhere

Whether you're a competitive athlete, a weekend warrior, or a CrossFitter who just wants to get back to the barbell, your rehab is built around your sport's actual demands.

Our Approach: Rehab Like an Athlete

Full hour, 1-on-1, every visit.

No aides running your exercises while your PT juggles three patients. Your whole session is with your doctor of physical therapy.

Strength-based rehab.

We don't just calm things down — we build you back up. Progressive loading, real strength work, and conditioning are core to how we rehab, because that's what your sport requires.

Return-to-sport criteria, not vibes.

You don't go back when the pain fades; you go back when you've hit objective strength and movement benchmarks. We test — hop tests, strength symmetry, sport-specific drills — so your return is a decision, not a guess.

Train around it.

Being injured doesn't always mean being sidelined. We'll modify your training so you can keep working while you recover whenever it's safe to do so.

We speak your language.

Our PTs are athletes themselves — skiers, lifters, runners. And because we're cash-based with no insurance visit limits, your plan is based on what your recovery actually needs, not what a claims adjuster approves.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

A sport-specific evaluation. Your history, the mechanism of injury, and — critically — what your sport demands of the injured area. A skier's knee and a powerlifter's knee get different rehabs.

Movement assessment. Strength, mobility, and movement quality testing to find the real driver of the injury, not just the painful spot.

Hands-on treatment on day one. Manual therapy plus your first round of targeted exercise — evaluation-only first visits aren't our style.

A clear roadmap. Diagnosis in plain English, phases of rehab, expected timeline back to your sport, and honest cost: $160 per full-hour session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral for sports physical therapy in Utah?

No. Utah direct access laws let you see a doctor of physical therapy without a physician referral. Book directly — especially useful mid-season when you can't afford to wait weeks for a doctor's appointment first.

How long until I'm back to my sport?

It depends on the injury — a mild sprain might be 3–4 weeks; a post-surgical ACL is typically 9–12 months. We'll give you an honest timeline at your first visit and objective criteria for each phase, so you always know where you stand.

Can I keep training while I'm in PT?

Often, yes. One of the biggest advantages of sport-savvy PT is knowing what you can safely keep doing. We'll modify around the injury rather than shutting you down completely — when it's appropriate.

Do you work with post-surgical patients?

Yes — we regularly rehab ACL reconstructions, meniscus repairs, labral repairs, and other orthopedic surgeries, and we're happy to coordinate with your surgeon on protocols and milestones.

Do you take insurance?

We're out-of-network with all plans, which is exactly what makes the 1-on-1, full-hour model possible. We provide a super-bill for out-of-network reimbursement and accept HSA/FSA. Most athletes find the per-visit value beats 15 minutes of attention at an in-network mill.
